Hindered by an outdated design and user experience, the Scholastic team partnered with Filtro to design and develop the new International Rights website. The website helps publishers and agents quickly find the rights information for the entire Scholastic Catalog. The goal for the new website is to not only be informational, but also serve as a marketing platform to increase sales and partnerships for Scholastic. Featured authors, related titles, cross marketing content, intuitive search, and a modular layout all thoughtfully constructed within a beautiful responsive design.

Expected to launch July 2016

Data, Data, and more Data

A large component of this project was to export 8000+ book titles, 4500+ rights data, 2000+ author and illustrator profiles, images, and a number of agent user accounts from the existing website. The key was careful planning. We meticulously compiled and exported all the text data into spreadsheets. From there, we scrubbed the data for inconsistencies that were to be avoided on the new website. We worked closely with Scholastic, sharing spreadsheets, looking at the data and prep it for importing. At the same time, we compiled all the images and other data. Once we were finished, we imported the data into the Drupal database.

Ecommerce *light*

A primary audience for the website is agents who will order books to potentially buy rights for. Once logged in, agents have the ability to add and order books from the website. We jokingly refer to it as ecommerce light, as there is no payment processing. (Want to see a complete ecommerce solution? Check out our other case study.)

Responsive web design

The goal for the new website was to not only be informational, but also serve as a marketing platform to increase sales and partnerships for Scholastic. Featured authors, related titles, cross marketing content, intuitive search, and a modular layout all thoughtfully constructed within a beautiful responsive design. Editing the website, once a costly task for an outside designer, will now be handled entirely by the Scholastic team.

Conclusion

The best part of this project was giving the Scholastic International Rights team control over their content. Editing the website, once a costly task for an outside designer, will now be handled entirely by the Scholastic team. They can create agent accounts, manage orders, feature content, and import each new catalog of titles. We love empowering our clients.
